June 2007
Folio acquires Avon Dies.

The two companies have traded next door  to each other for 18 years and have always had a close working relationship. For Folio it was a natural progression; we already had die making and cutting and creasing of our own and the purchase of Avon Dies gives us better die making facilities and much broader range of die cutting facilities. We know the staff very well and are looking forward to working with them and taking the company forward.

March 2007: The Howard Smith Paper Graphic Design & Print Awards

March 2007
Three of the four nominations and the eventual winner in the Fine Art category of this year's Howard Smith Graphic Design & Print Awards were finished by Folio.

On Tuesday 6th March, Howard Smith Paper Group hosted its Awards Dinner at The Century Club in London.

Folio's entries into this competition were recognised with three Nominations in the Fine Art Publishing category. The book 'Shooting Stars', a portfolio of the movie star portraiture of Cornel Lucas, produced for the National Portrait Gallery was the category winner.

The other two projects nominated incuded another Limited Edition book produced for Deloitte entitled 'Heads Of Business'. This book detailed portraits and biographies of 39 of the most influential business leaders in the UK, all photographed by Harry Borden.

Folio's final nomination was for 'Eve & Marilyn: The Photographic Portraits Of Eve Arnold', a monograph produced to be given to guests attending a Private Champagne Reception to open an exhibition of the photographs at 195 Piccadilly, the private member's club and headquarters of the British Academy of Film & Television Arts.

To quote the Judges Comment: "In what turned out to be an excellent category, 'Heads Of Business' and 'Marilyn & Eve' were very close to winning. However, after much consideration, the judges agreed that due to the high quality of printing, consistency of solids, and excellent binding, the 'Cornel Lucas' book just prevailed. We would like to make a special mention for the three other finalists, who on any other day, may have won." - Peter Hayden St Ives, Westerham Press

All three of these projects were produced in partnership with design consultancy The English Group along with printer EPC (Direct).
